It was 1955, when Lidamo Ciurli elementary school teacher and president of the Autonomous Society of Care and Living decided to create on the occasion of San Genesio 25th August (patron of the diocese of S.Miniato) a festival called with the name of “San Genesio, Festa dei Bimbi”
Initially the teacher involved children from neighboring countries just to invite them to the town on this occasion.
In addition to Ciurli the Archpriest Don Aurelio Veracini supported and valued the Festa of San Genesio. Every year the bishop of the diocese of San Miniato takes part in the day and together with pages, trumpeters and Grand Chamberlain give life to the most solemn moment; that of the blessing of children
.
The Festa of San Genesio is characterized by the presence of attractions and games for children who for a day have the reins of Casciana Terme after the Grand Chamberlain; representative of children got the keys to the city in the ceremony of August 24th by the Mayor
Traditionally On August 25th it is time to play (although in recent years according to the calendar, the games are held on the first Sunday after the 25th).
During the afternoon in the streets of the town, children delight in various tests, but both young and old are anxiously waiting.
The most evocative moment of the festival is the launch of the Balloon and the balloons to which is linked the message of goodness that is not an end in itself, but hopefully can reach other children with the hope that a correspondence can be born that extends over the years.
