Church of Santa Maria Assunta and San Leonardo - Lari

The church traces its origins back to the 10th century and has undergone several transformations over time. In 1420 it was enlarged, as shown by the plaque on the portal architrave. In 1910, the church was renovated in a neo-Gothic look.

Oratory of the Madonna della Neve - Lari

Two symmetrical gratings placed on the entrance door show how the oratory was considered a sanctuary: the pilgrims arriving from the surrounding villages could thus venerate the Virgin Mary from the portico, even if the church was closed.

Oratory of the Madonna della Cava - Casciana Alta

The image of the Madonna della Cava has become particularly known for the many miracles related. The building has an octagonal plan and is enriched by seven canvases by the Florentine painter Bamberini. Above the main altar there is a beautiful fresco by an anonymous artist.

Church of San Niccolò - Casciana Alta

This large single-nave temple has five altars: two are from the school of Santi di Tito, one represents the circumcision of Christ, and one the Madonna del Rosario with San Domenico and Santa Caterina.

Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Cevoli

Existing since the ninth century, restored in the fifteenth century and later in 1710, the Church preserves a beautiful Romanesque crucifix and a painting of the Madonna and Child with Saints Peter and Paul.

Oratory of the Madonna of the Seven Sorrows - Casciana Terme

This ancient Church was a gathering center for pilgrims passing through during the Crusades, built around the 9th century. The Ospedaletto of S. Bartolomeo was located near the present oratory. The church is known for the works of Giunta Pisano and Bartolomeo da Ceppato (the latter mysteriously disappeared).

Church of San Martino in Pietraia - Casciana Terme

The church, dating from the late 1500s, became a sanctuary in 1963. Inside, it houses the image of the crucified SS: the only known thing about the author is the initials, SLM, carved in a femur.

Church of Santa Maria Assunta - Casciana Terme

The testimonies on the presence of the church refer to an ecclesiastical document of the year 840. Inside there are: the Madonna del Rosario, by Passignano, and the Madonna with Child or “Madonna delle Grazie”, painted by the Master of San Torpè in 1300.

Church of San Martin del Colle - Collemontanino

The ancient Church of San Martin del Colle dates back to the 8th century AD and is a Romanesque structure with Etruscan influences, as evidenced by the Etruscan funerary stone, used as a holy water stoup.

On the altar there is a Roman stele, not yet deciphered, which bears witness to the passage of the empire.

Church of San Rocco - Ceppato

The church is located near the cemetery and its origins go back to the 12th century. Before being dedicated to San Rocco, in 1450, it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The saint is frescoed on the entrance bezel, by Africano Paffi (1977).

Sanctuary of the Madonna de' Monti - Sant'Ermo

The Sanctuary of the Madonna de’ Monti overlooks a beautiful view, made up of cultivated fields and hills in the background. The structure dates back to the 19th century, when it was rebuilt after the 1846 earthquake.

Church of Saints Quirico and Giulitta - Parlascio

The church was built in 1444 to order by the Upezzinghi family. Inside you can find frescoes, such as the Holy Face, (Bartolomeo da Ceppato), the Saints Quirico and Giulitta, and a bust of the Madonna del Latte. Visiting the church it will be possible to enjoy the view of the hills towards Volterra from the terrace.

San Martino in Gello - Gello Mattaccino

Purchased by Alessandro di Matteo Cini in the mid-sixteenth century, from which it takes its name, it stands imposingly on the valley of the river Fine, among the green of the uncontaminated nature that surrounds it.
